Basic Electronics: An Introduction to Electronics for Science Students
This book has been written to support a one-semester laboratory course in electronics that is taught at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Physics majors typically take this course during the second semester of their sophomore year. The course as taught at CMU consists of two one-hour lectures and two

three-hour labs per week. Students taking this course are expected to have completed three semesters of introductory physics courses. This includes an introduction to modern physics as well as a first course on mathematical methods in physics. While in principle this course should be accessible to students after completing one year of study, the additional math from the sophomore level courses helps with understanding of the math used in electronics---in particular complex numbers. I have tried to write the book as a self-contained package with sufficient review of this math that it should be accessible; however, some of the optional topics may not be appropriate.

Instructors Manual
There is also an Instructors Manual for the course. This contains a discussion on how we use
the book at Carnegie Mellon University as well as suggestions on what material can be skipped
during the course. It also contains sample exams that have been used at CMU and the solutions
to the problmes in then text. Instructors interested in using the text can obtain a password

Laboratory Manual
The laboratory manual used at Carnegie Mellon University can be obtained from
Lulu.com. You
can download an electronic version for free, or purchase a spiral bound verions that
will open flat in the laboratory. For instructors that would like to modify these labs
